While the last meeting of 2017 passed in December without an increase or decrease to the Bank of Canada overnight rate, many people still feel as though a rate hike can happen at any time, on any day! In fact, the Bank of Canada meets eight times per year and it’s during each meeting that the overnight rate is set. If there is a change, each individual lender typically follows suit by increasing or decreasing their rates, mirroring the BoC. Knowing these dates in advance, and having a rate-hold in place prior to a BoC meeting, gives you a major advantage. Speak with a Mortgage Professional to get pre-qualified and have a rate-hold established before your next major purchase.
